In the history of the bible, there was no virtue spoken about so well as putting one on a higher pedestal as was said about DILIGENCE. According to the English dictionary, “It is the conscientiousness in paying proper attention to task; giving the degree of care required in a given situation “. Simply, if you practice diligence, you are a hard and careful worker. Does it suggest that just being hardworking is not enough to be successful? No! There’s this story I heard about a young lady who amongst her colleagues, chose not to be associated with a certain group of ‘ unemployed graduates ‘ who have a preconceived mind that there are but few jobs which doesn’t match the number of them (graduates) who come out of school every year. The moment I decide to unzip my mouth, you should expect nothing other than a bombshell! While away on an examination break, we made many observations, heard many stories, and as well found ourselves enclaved in one or two phenomena. It was during this short break that I chanced on the story of this young man who had died but having met God, was asked to come back just to empty himself of his talents. He was one of the few geniuses his generation could ever boast of but always lived in a pale shadow of himself. John’s birth, as described by the mum was very mysterious since none of his earlier four(4) children had given her such a headache during pregnancy and birth in her whole life. Born to christian parents, John couldn’t have settled for any other believe than Christianity. There’s this story I heard about a young blind boy. He was always seen seated at one corner of the street begging for alms. This became a daily routine as he was almost always there and wouldn’t miss a day for anything. Passersby often dropped their pennies in his bowl and this young boy will in turn bless them for the kind gesture. One unique thing about him was, he had a small placard, and on it was written ‘I AM BLIND, PLEASE HELP ME’. That was the inscription on his placard and often people preferred him over other beggars on that same street just because of how he branded himself. With all the placard, plus the inscription, and the supposed branding, this little one wasn’t getting enough for himself, let alone his family, who were living in abject poverty and so had used him as a decoy just to get end’s meat. Drawing inspirations from Manasseh Azure’s ‘The Cheetahs of Every Generation’, it wouldn’t have come any better than this. Of a surety every generation has got not less than two categories of people, the fast runners and the slow runners. Both groups are in competition with others for the ultimate crown in the race of life. Prior to the ‘D-day’, the news of the all new athletic competition in the animal kingdom was circulating on social media and other tabloids. Monkey, the publication officer, together with his team worked hard to hype the competition. In the history of the animals kingdom, no competition has got such a hype than this one. The day finally came with all the athletes lined up and warming up for the race. They were all gunning for the ultimate trophy. About thirty (30) contestants from different families and backgrounds were all in fine shape and good to go. Mr Tortoise, to the surprise of many was also in line to compete. As stunningly cunning as monkeys, “these guys can make you forget your name in a split of a second”….said one married man. Side chicks have been around since time in memorial, but per recent studies (personal and corporate), their activities are on the surge in the 21st century. They are not the most decorous but always get the job done, so to say. A few research questions will do huh? Who are they, and what do they want to achieve? Why do they do what they do?
